September is Sizzlin'

Have you heard about the cool stuff going on next month? There are tons of things to do and so little time! Here's the latest from your GS council on what's going on in September:
  • River Raft Race--Girls in grades 7 & up get to raft down the Hiwassee on Sept. 8th. How awesome is that?

  • Nuts About Wildlife--Spend a day at the zoo to kick off the Fall Product Sale on Sept. 15th. You can't get more into the swing of things than by hanging out with all of the animals at the Chattanooga Zoo with your family. Must be in 1st-12th grade.

  • Program Aide--Working with troops at day camp is not all Program Aides do. Program Aides can work with troops or assist at council events. You will see what it takes to work with girls in Girl Scouting and get some tips for making sure that the girls have a great time at an event or troop meeting. This workshop will be on Sept. 15th in Athens for girls in grades 7-10.

  • Program Aide Specialty Workshop--This evening will be a special treat for girls who have already taken the Program Aide workshop. We'll be playing games, singing songs, making crafts, storytelling and balloon making to make sure that GSMBC has the best Program Aides ever. This workshop is on Sept. 18th at the Service Center, so sign up today!

  • Scout Day at Lake Winnie--Spend the day at Lake Winnie with your family. Girls get in free and get unlimited rides if they wear their membership pin, sash, or vest. You will not want to miss out!

  • Fall Product Sale--The fall sale begins Sept. 24. Are you ready to sell?

Program Aide & Workshop

Do you like working with younger girls? Do you want to help out troops or at council events? Then, this is the place for you! The Program Aide workshop will help you become better at dealing with girls and give you more ideas for working directly with girls in a troop or group setting. You must have completed the 6th grade for Cadette Program Aide and 9th grade for the Senior Program Aide. Once you take the training and complete your 25 hours of service, you will get your Program Aide pin!

The first two sessions are coming up before you know it:

Session A: Sept. 15th in Athens at Mars Hill Presbyterian from 9am-3pm

Session B: Oct. 13th at the Service Center from 9am-3pm

**NOTE: If you are already a Program Aide, then you are eligible to attend the Specialty Workshop on September 18th at the Service Center from 6-8pm. We're going to give you even more ideas to help make working with girls a little easier for you. So make sure you sign up right away!

Dreams Magazine

Have you ever read Dreams, the magazine GSMBC publishes for older girls? We're working on the one for this year and we need your input.

What kinds of articles would you like to see in it? What are your interests?
Are there topics that you really want to know more about that we could put in there?
Is there a topic that you are an expert on and can write an article about to be published in the magazine?

This is your magazine, so please send me thoughts or ideas. You can post a comment here with those or you can email me at nsexton@mbgsc.org.
